Here a table to help with understanding what SNR is good and bad from Wireless Nets. For example I currently have an RSSSi of -74 dBm and Noise of -88 dBm the SNR will be 15 d. A ratio based on signal and signal noise. The Signal to Noise ratio check is there to really know if your wifi signal is good. However this is not the Signal to Noise checkup yet. -89 dbm to -70 dBm: Medium to high signalĪs my RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) so Medium to High.-100 dBm or less: Unacceptable signal, check antenna connection.Reading Open Gear Zendesk article you can see

To check wifi strength on OSX you can use while x=1 do /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/amework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -I | grep CtlRSSI sleep 0.5 done Will be upgrading my local network soon so that can be excluded totally and do some more testing. This is mainly due to TOT switching my router to a new ip in a poor way or general node or international gateway issues. I have been running it for close to 24 hrs and here is part of the time I did not change ISP – switching to AIS 4G often due to crap TOT connection here in Thailand and an occasional router issue: DOWN T18:46:43+07 15005Īs you can see there was a lot of crap going on at night with things turning on and off from 1:45 to 3:31. I am also using the domain of a site I work on a lot to check as TOT Thailand often has no issues displaying local websites, but sucks at dealing with sites located on the other site of the planet. Wget Not PingĪs you can see I am using wget, not ping as ICMP is often blocked by ISPS. You could also add a crontab, but I do not want to run it all the time or at certain times automatically.

I found an interesting script you can run on your Mac by executing a bash script. Just because you are a geek and would like to know or because you were having issues with your hoster like me and want to test. Sometimes you need to keep track of internet access. I found a nice bash script to check internet uptime and tweaked it for us all to use with ease. You need something to test your connection that day as you are having issues.

(a regular Windows server AD network). The user has read-write access to a few network shares (mapped drives on server). What kind. You want to check your internet connectivity.

I am imagining a scenario where a low level user has their password stolen, and the bad guys access the network through WiFi.

I do not even want to think about the number of sales calls I am going to get in the next few days because I have "tried" a bunch of tools. I guess i need something that has a local app that calls home or some such in order to let the monitor know that the site is alive.
#Check pc internet uptime install#
For $5 a month though I could install the server app and I guess make a monitor for it and just not use the other monitors. The paid version looks to have a server monitoring tool, but I do not need that.
#Check pc internet uptime free#
The free version is obviously just http monitoring, no problem. How can they tell me if the internet is down if there is a blackhole on the inbound firewall? No pings, no port forwarding to web server, nothing. This looks like a good tool, but will not work in this situation directly I think. Have all of our locations monitored therein. We are using and are quite happy with their efficiency on the free model (30 mins scans).
